The former governor of the state, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has been notified by the party’s stakeholders, known as G14, that he is free to leave the party if he so chooses, further escalating the turmoil roiling the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State.
The former governor, Gabriel Suswam, is a co-chairman of the G14, which was established in 2015 and is made up of PDP elders from the state’s 14 local government districts that make up the Tiv ethnic bloc. At a party stakeholders meeting in Makurdi earlier this week, the former governor declared that he had abolished the group and pledged to replace it with a new organization called Caucus members of the party, which would have its members spread throughout the state.
In response to Suswam’s declaration, G14 chairman Laha Dzever stated that the group is a non-statutory, volunteer organization operating within the PDP with the goal of assisting the statutory organs of the party in promoting harmony, unity, and the party’s ongoing expansion.
G-14, by its nature and formative history, is not in the ownership of any individual and thus cannot be so disbanded as Senator Suswam claimed to have done,” stated a statement signed by Dzever and released on Saturday under the heading “G-14 Remains Intact and Committed to PDP.”
