ALIA CONSTITUTES BENUE STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (BSIEC)

The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has forwarded to the Benue State House of Assembly for confirmation, eight names to serve as Chairman and Members of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Tersoo Kula, Press Secretary to the Governor stated on Thursday 14 March 2024

The nominees are:

  1. DR. JOHN CHEN – Chairman
  2. TERHEMEN SHOM- Member (1)
  3. THEODORE IORDYE UCHI- Member (2)
  4. SOLOMON AIKIGHE DEVA- Member (3)
  5. EDACHE ISAAC- Member (4)
  6. MRS. GLORIA CLEMENT- Member (5)
  7. PETER BABA OGAGBOLO- Member (6)
  8. DR. GISAOR VINCENT- Secretary

The Governor noted that the nominees have been considered suitable based on their track records, and will be responsible for the conduct of elections into the Local Government areas in the State.

He charged them to be fair, just and always consider the interest of the state above theirs in the discharge of their duties while wishing them best of luck in their new duty.

Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC)

The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) is the state electoral body. It organizes, undertakes and supervises all elections into Local Government Councils in Benue State.

It plays a significant role in the political and electoral activities of Benue State.

BSIEC aims to conducts credible, free and fair elections in Benue State that would stand the test of time and help in the growth of the democracy in Nigeria.

It is located on Km 2, off Ankpa Quarters Road, Makurdi, Benue State

Benue State Governorship, State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate elections are conducted by the federal electoral body. INEC, while the state electoral body, BSIEC, conducts Local Government Areas (LGAs) elections in the state.
