HOW NPC CHAIRMAN IS APPOINTED

NPC Chairman is appointed by the President through the SGF.

NPC is under the presidency. Being under the presidency means the head of the MDA reports directly to the President (not to a minister).

Several (though not all) MDAs under the presidency report to the President through the SGF. So the SGF is like the minister of MDAs under the presidency.

The SGF office is a powerful one. MDAs like NPC, EFCC, INEC and over 20 others take their files to the President en route the SGF. At times a President may give SGF go ahead to decide on certain issues.

That’s where the appointment of NPC Chairman comes in.

As for acting Chairman the SGF can easily conclude it.

If it’s appointment of a full tenure Chairman (not acting) then the SGF must seek the President’s decision.
