There are at least 65 verified private jets operating in Nigeria according to a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) information in 2021.

Most of the jets are owned by Nigerians but registered in US or Europe through shell companies to hide identity, pay less insurance fees or resale the jets at a higher price in an event of a decision to so.

Its not wrong travelling in chartered private jets. There are certain Nigerians who travel in private jets but don’t actually own the jets. The jets are chartered or leased.

However, some of them like to live a fake life so they make it appear as if they’re the owners of those jets, making people to say they own private jets.

• Cost, price of a private jet

A private jet costs between $2 million to over $100 million. A premium one goes for about $60 million and more.

For the super rich, interior decorations with gold and other luxuries gulp another $60 million making the cost to go as high as $120 million.

• Care

On average taking care of a private jet costs about $500,000 to $1 million per year.

Reoccurring expenses include flight crew salaries, routine maintenance, repairs, insurance and hangar rental.

Nigerians have spent over $6.5bn on private jets in recent times, making it the largest market in Africa for luxury aircraft and one of the fastest growing in the world.
