Tinubu orders immediate release of detained minors

President Bola Tinubu recently directed the immediate release of all minors detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests. This decision follows widespread outcry, particularly after it was revealed that several minors, some as young as 14, had been detained since August amid protests against economic hardships. Tinubu’s directive was relayed by Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, who confirmed that the President has tasked the Attorney-General with ensuring their swift release and has ordered an investigation into the actions of law enforcement involved in the arrests.

Additionally, a committee led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is being formed to facilitate the minors’ reunification with their families and provide necessary welfare support. This directive comes amid calls from human rights groups like Amnesty International, which condemned the government’s actions and emphasized the need to respect the right to peaceful assembly.
