The Airport was commissioned on 27th October, 1984. There were skeletal operations since 1978 until it was upgraded to an International Airport in 2002. The Airport is located at Jimeta, about 8km Northwest of Yola. The nearest towns are Kofere, Dunwire and Burloure villages.
