Hon. Iyortyom who was born on 14th September, 1963, hails from Buruku local government area.
He had primary school education at Demonstration Primary School Mkar from 1970 to 1975 where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate. Thereafter, Mr. Iyortyom attended Government Teacher’s College Mkar, from 1975-1980 and obtained the West African Examination Council, WAEC, Certificate.
He attended the Institute of Education of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, from 1982 to 1985 and the University of Agriculture Makurdi, 2003 and 2004.
Hon. Iyortyom was a teacher at N.K.S.T. Secondary School, Mkar from 1980-1982 and N.K.S.T. Bristow Secondary School, Gboko, 1986-1992. He was President and Chief Executive Officer, SEDI Capital Projects Ltd; 1993-2006; Assistant Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Benue State, 2007-2010, as well as Member, House of Representatives, Buruku Federal Constituency.
He has also held many positions of responsibility including Executive Director, Vekas and Allets Investment; State Delegate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Benue State, 2014, Deputy Director, Operations, Samuel Ortom Campaign Organization, 2015.
Hon. Iyortyom received several awards such as the Ambassadors, Teachers Without Borders Millennium Award 2012; Patron, National Association of Zone B Students, Benue State Award 2009; Most Outstanding Patron Award (Boys Brigade) 2014; and Award of Excellence by Zabit E-Shopping Ltd. 2015.
He is a member of several associations including National Cassava Exporters Association of Nigeria, Mbagen Development Association, Man O’War and Makurdi Club 1930.
In his spare time, he plays lawn tennis, golf and politics.
