US in collaboration with Nigerian security forces intensifies efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and restore stability across affected communities.
The United States Africa Command and Nigerian military carried out additional air strike missions in the general area of Metele, Borno State, targeting terrorist movements and operational hideouts linked to ISIS and ISWAP elements.
According to the military update, intelligence surveillance revealed the convergence and migration of terrorist fighters within the area, prompting swift and coordinated aerial operations. The strikes reportedly resulted in the elimination of more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters, delivering another major blow to terrorist activities in the region.
The latest operation follows the earlier neutralisation of ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a development regarded as a significant milestone in ongoing counterterrorism efforts. Military authorities stated that the sustained offensive is designed to weaken terrorist capabilities, disrupt their operational networks, and prevent them from establishing safe havens anywhere within Nigerian territory.
Security officials reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain committed to defending the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of citizens. The military emphasized that terrorists threatening communities, national peace, and stability will continue to face relentless pressure from security forces.
The renewed operations highlight the growing cooperation between Nigerian forces and international military partners in combating insurgency and extremist violence across the Lake Chad region. Over the years, Metele and surrounding areas have remained strategic locations in the battle against ISIS-affiliated groups due to their proximity to terrorist movement corridors.

Military authorities maintained that the campaign against insurgency remains active and ongoing, stressing that there will be no refuge for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria. The statement reinforces the government’s determination to sustain offensive operations until terrorist threats are fully neutralised and affected communities can experience lasting peace and security.

Military Sustains Coordinated Offensive Against Terrorists
The Nigerian military has intensified its coordinated offensive against ISIS-affiliated terrorists in North East Nigeria, recording another significant success following fresh air strike operations conducted in the general area of Metele.
In an official update released by the Defence Headquarters, military authorities confirmed that the latest operation was carried out in close coordination with the United States Africa Command as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds and eliminate insurgent threats across the region.
The operation targeted ISIS and ISWAP fighters who were reportedly observed converging and relocating within strategic areas in the North East. Acting on intelligence and aerial surveillance, the Armed Forces launched multiple precision air strikes aimed at disrupting the movement and operational capabilities of the terrorist elements.
According to the military, the coordinated strikes resulted in the elimination of more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters. The operation is being viewed as another major breakthrough in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign aimed at weakening insurgent influence and restoring security in communities affected by years of violent extremism.
Military officials explained that the latest offensive forms part of a broader sustained campaign designed to identify, track, and destroy terrorist networks operating within Nigeria’s borders. The strikes also come shortly after the reported neutralisation of notorious ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whose activities had been linked to terrorist operations within the region.
The Defence Headquarters noted that the continuous targeting of high-profile commanders and militant formations demonstrates the increasing effectiveness of coordinated intelligence gathering, surveillance, and joint operational planning between Nigerian forces and international security partners.
For years, the North East region has remained the epicentre of insurgent violence, with terrorist groups exploiting remote territories and border communities to launch attacks, recruit fighters, and establish operational camps. Areas around Metele have repeatedly witnessed military offensives due to their strategic significance in the insurgency conflict.
Security analysts believe that sustained pressure on terrorist formations is critical to preventing the regrouping of extremist fighters and reducing their capacity to threaten civilian populations. The latest military action signals a continued shift toward aggressive offensive operations intended to deny insurgents freedom of movement and operational space.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed their commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security. Military authorities stressed that troops remain fully prepared to confront all threats against the Nigerian state and ensure that terrorists are removed from the battlefield.
The statement further assured citizens that ongoing operations across the North East and other troubled regions would continue until terrorist networks are completely dismantled. Authorities emphasized that there would be no safe haven for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria, warning that all groups threatening peace, stability, and public safety would continue to face decisive military action.
The renewed operations also underscore the importance of international military cooperation in addressing terrorism and cross-border insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin region. Through intelligence sharing, coordinated operations, and strategic support, Nigerian forces and their allies continue to strengthen efforts aimed at achieving long-term regional security.
As military offensives intensify, residents in affected communities are hopeful that the sustained operations will lead to improved security conditions, reduced attacks on civilians, and the eventual restoration of peace across the North East.
