Katsina College was the first college to be established in the Northern Nigeria.
The state government embarked on massive recruitment of primary and secondary teachers in order to match this phenomenal increase in the enrolment of school pupils.
The number of classrooms was also increased by erecting storey buildings in many primary and In addition, new junior secondary Schools throughout the state.
Secondary schools and girls primary schools were build by the thirty four (34) local government councils at the direction ot state government. The combination of these measures has the effect of improving the teacher/pupil ratio from over hundred pupils per teacher to less than fifty.
Katsina is one of the educationally advanced states in the North, if not in the educational development of the state which at one time was below that of other states, even in the educationally backward North.
2016/2017 school year There are 2,231 primary schools with a total enrolment of 1.549, 157 pupils; 240 junior secondary schools with a total enrolment of 237.299 pupils. 237 senior secondary with a total enrollment 149.295 pupils in 2016/2017 school year (Ministry of Education).
