Government Science Secondary School (GSS) Mangun transforms to Federal Government Science and Technical College

The transformation of the Government Science Secondary School (GSS) Mangun into the Federal Government Science and Technical College Mangun marks a historic step for education and economic growth in Plateau State’s Mangu Local Government Area. Supported by an allocation of 1.5 billion Naira, this upgrade is designed to modernize the institution with state-of-the-art facilities, positioning it as a center of technical education that will nurture future professionals and stimulate local development.

This significant development was made possible through collaborative efforts, particularly led by Hon. Dr. Ishaya David Lalu, the House of Representatives member for Mangu/Bokkos, and Plateau State Governor Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. At the flag-off event, Dr. Lalu reflected on the persistent challenges and achievements throughout the project’s journey, emphasizing that political collaboration, rather than rivalry, was instrumental in realizing the project.

Dr. Lalu, who has been a steadfast advocate for the federalization of the school, spoke about the extensive groundwork laid and acknowledged the teamwork across political lines. His advocacy culminated in a decisive meeting with the Minister of Education and support from Governor Mutfwang, ensuring that the final location selection honored Mangun’s needs and future potential. “This achievement goes beyond party lines; it is a product of unity,” he remarked, underscoring the community-driven aspect of this project.

Governor Mutfwang’s representative, Hon. Commissioner Joshua Ubandoma Laven, shared the governor’s vision of a high-quality educational institution that will arm young people with scientific and technical skills essential for meaningful societal contributions. He highlighted the college’s planned facilities, including an e-library and fully equipped science laboratories, which aim to create a comprehensive educational experience.

Additionally, Federal Ministry of Education representative Mr. Kola Osundeyi praised the partnership that made this upgrade possible and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to technical education expansion. Osundeyi reassured attendees of the ministry’s support in providing the necessary infrastructure, targeting readiness by the following year to welcome the inaugural class.

Arc Maimuna Umar from the National Secondary School Education Commission noted the project’s focus on creating a conducive learning environment, featuring an ICT library and comprehensive lab facilities. A dedicated consultant will oversee the construction to maintain quality and standards, reinforcing the project’s commitment to excellence.

This development was celebrated by Mr. Sunday Briggs, President of the Mangun Old Students Association (MAOSA), who acknowledged the dedication of Hon. Dr. Lalu and the alignment between state and federal efforts to foster progress. The project represents a unifying accomplishment for the Mangun community, promising lasting educational benefits and socioeconomic growth.
