The international steel cable connects Spain to Portugal. At first glance, someone can hardly notice that there is a steel cable connecting Sanlucar de Guadiana in Andalusia, Spain, to the city of Alcoutim in the Algarve, Portugal.
The cable is more than 720 meters long, and it is the only cable in the world that crosses international borders and allows tourists to travel across the Guadiana River; which is 150 meters wide; at a speed of up to 70 to 80 kilometers per hour.
The starting platform is located on the side of the Sanlucar de Guadiana Castle in Spain, 100 meters above the river. The landing point is located 15 meters above the river in Alcoutim, Portugal, with an inclined angle of 12.47%, making it easy to get from Spain to Portugal in less than a minute.
When visitors arrive in Alcoutim, they gain a full hour of daylight, due to the time difference between the two countries. At the end of their trip in Portugal, visitors return to Spain across the river using a ferry.
On busy days the cable carries about 24 to 30 people per hour, at a price of 15 euros per person.

This line operates 200 days a year and is closed for maintenance in the second half of November and the second half of February.
