Newly sworn-in Chairman of Jos East Local Government Area, Hon. Markus Usaini, has announced a dedicated focus on revitalizing the local economy as the core agenda of his administration. Recognizing the economic and agricultural potential of the region, Usaini has pledged to address the infrastructural challenges that currently inhibit growth and development.
A Focus on Agriculture and Infrastructure
Speaking at the ceremony following his inauguration, Usaini highlighted the importance of agriculture to the Jos East economy, particularly noting the area’s favorable conditions for cultivating perishable goods like vegetables. However, he emphasized that inadequate road networks pose a significant challenge, limiting farmers’ ability to transport their produce efficiently to city markets.
“Our major challenge is a road network. The people are suffering. We have fertile land and great weather for agriculture, especially for cultivating perishable goods like vegetables, but transporting these to markets in the city remains a serious problem,” Usaini said.
In response to this issue, Usaini shared that his administration has already mapped out key areas where improvements are essential. By enhancing transportation routes, the administration aims to foster an enabling environment for agricultural growth, ultimately boosting the local economy and improving residents’ livelihoods.
Health Sector Improvements
Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Usaini has also prioritized strengthening the health sector, acknowledging it as a major concern among Jos East residents. Improved healthcare facilities are crucial, as they will support overall community well-being, which is essential for sustained economic activity. Usaini’s plans for the health sector align with his goal of building a more resilient and prosperous community in Jos East.
Leadership Team and Community Collaboration
Hon. Usaini has assembled a leadership team focused on addressing local issues through an inclusive and community-centered approach. He recently swore in Hon. Atsen Yusuf Musa as Deputy Chairman, along with councillors representing the 19 wards of Jos East. Mrs. Joyce Samuel Nyam was appointed Executive Secretary, with Com Fabian Nyam serving as Personal Assistant and Com James Casper Azi as Director of Media and Publicity. This team will support Usaini’s agenda to foster development across the local government area.
In a commitment to collaborative governance, Usaini has emphasized the importance of community input in the administration’s decision-making process. He intends to ensure that residents’ voices are heard and their needs considered as the administration implements policies to drive Jos East forward.
Legislative Leadership and Vision
The Jos East Legislative Arm has also filled its leadership roles to support the new administration’s vision. Hon. Luka James Idoh, Councillor for Fobur B West, was elected as Leader, with Hon. Ajang Arin Agok named Deputy Leader. Hon. Luka John Itse and Hon. Itse Izang Ishaku have taken up the roles of Majority Leader and Minority Leader, respectively. In his acceptance speech, Hon. Idoh expressed appreciation to the PDP and Chairman Usaini, committing to lead with integrity and foster collaboration to pass impactful policies.
Moving Forward
Hon. Markus Usaini’s administration represents a proactive approach to economic and social development in Jos East, setting a path for infrastructure enhancement, agricultural support, and healthcare improvements. By addressing these areas, the new chairman and his team are poised to make a substantial difference in the lives of Jos East residents, bringing growth and prosperity to the community.
