Lagos to pay N85,000 as minimum wage, targets N100,000 increase

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced that the minimum wage for civil servants in the state has been set at N85,000, with a goal of increasing it to N100,000 by January. This move makes Lagos one of the states with the highest minimum wages in Nigeria.

During an interview on Politics Today with Channels Television, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the decision is based on the state’s financial capacity. He acknowledged the high cost of living in Lagos and explained that the wage increase is aimed at providing civil servants with a livable income. Sanwo-Olu added that the state government had already increased salaries earlier in the year and plans further hikes to ensure workers feel the impact of governance.

He clarified that the wage increase is not a competition with other states but a reflection of Lagos’s affordability and capacity to support its workers. By January 2024, he hopes to raise the minimum wage to N100,000, underscoring his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants.
