Benue: Concerns over safety of govt officials as 3 LG chairman fall off motorbikes
The recent news from Benue State, Nigeria, highlights the challenges local government chairmen face due to the lack of official vehicles. Since the October 6 elections, which saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) win all 23 chairmanship seats, the newly elected officials have not received the promised vehicles from the state government. This has forced many to rely on motorcycles, or “okadas,” for their daily duties. Unfortunately, this mode of transport has proven hazardous, with reports of three chairmen involved in accidents, resulting in minor injuries and dislocations.
