How to Hotspot Android Phone and Tablet

Before you start

  • The phone has working mobile data (open a webpage to check).
  • Both devices are charged, ideally the phone above 30%.
  • The tablet’s Wi‑Fi is on and its camera works.
  • Keep the two devices close together.

Part 1: Set up the hotspot on the phone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Network & internet → Hotspot & tethering. On Samsung: Connections → Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
  3. Tap Wi‑Fi hotspot (Samsung: Mobile Hotspot).
  4. Set the hotspot name and a strong password if you haven’t already. Set security to WPA2 or WPA3.
  5. Turn the hotspot On.
  6. Show the QR code:
    • Pixel and most Android phones: tap the QR code icon or Share next to the password (you may need to confirm with your fingerprint or PIN).
    • Samsung: tap QR code at the top of the Mobile Hotspot screen.
  7. Leave the QR code on screen and turn the brightness up.

Part 2: Connect the tablet by scanning

  1. On the tablet, open Settings → Network & internet → Wi‑Fi (or Settings → Wi‑Fi).
  2. Make sure Wi‑Fi is On.
  3. Tap the QR scan icon next to Add network. If you don’t see it, tap Add network first and look for the scan icon inside that screen.
  4. Allow camera access if asked.
  5. Point the tablet’s camera at the QR code on the phone, about 15–25 cm away, so the whole code fits in the frame.
  6. When the tablet recognizes the code, tap Connect or Join if prompted. It joins without you typing the password.

Part 3: Check that it works

  • The tablet shows Connected under your phone’s hotspot name.
  • Open a website or app on the tablet to confirm internet access.
  • The phone’s notification area or hotspot screen shows 1 device connected.

Troubleshooting

  • No scan icon on the tablet: Your Verxid may run an older Android version or a customized skin. Open the tablet’s Camera app and point it at the code; some versions offer a Join network prompt.
  • Code won’t scan: Raise the phone’s brightness, clean both screens, move the phone slightly closer or farther, and avoid glare.
  • Connects but no internet: Check that mobile data is on and you haven’t hit your data cap. Toggle the hotspot off and on.
  • Tablet won’t join: Turn the hotspot off and on, then show a fresh QR code. If it still fails, switch the hotspot band to 2.4 GHz in hotspot settings, since some tablets don’t support 5 GHz.
  • Hotspot option missing or greyed out: Your carrier plan may restrict tethering. Contact your carrier.

When you’re done

  1. On the tablet, go to Wi‑Fi, tap the hotspot name, and choose Forget if you don’t want it to reconnect automatically.
  2. On the phone, turn the hotspot Off to save battery and data.

Tip: After the first scan, the tablet saves the network, so next time you only need to turn the hotspot on and the tablet can reconnect by itself.
