Benue State police, on an operation to eliminate a newly formed local militia in Agwabi in Tombo, Buruku LGA, encountered fierce resistance but ultimately overpowered the outlaws with superior firepower.
“The police unit commander, however, lost his life in the process. The outlaws suffered heavier casualties,” a source said.

- Commissioner’s Directive:
- On June 3, 2025, CP Yabanet ordered Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify crackdowns on criminals in Benue State due to intelligence reports of criminal gang regroupings.
- Operation Zenda’s Raid:
- In line with this directive, the Operation Zenda Joint Taskforce conducted raids across the state.
- On March 19, 2025, at approximately 0200hrs, officers heading to a criminal hideout at Agwabi, Tombo, Buruku LGA were ambushed by bandits.
- A fierce gun battle ensued, with the police deploying superior firepower to repel the attack.
- Outcome of the Gun Battle:
- Twelve (12) bandits were neutralized, while others fled.
- Some bandits sustained injuries, were taken to the hospital, but were later confirmed dead.
- Recovered items:
- Three (3) AK-47 rifles
- Six rounds of live ammunition
- Camouflage uniforms

- Police Casualty:
- Inspector Terfa Anyiatse sustained a gunshot wound and was confirmed dead at the hospital.
- His remains have been deposited in the morgue.
