Benue State Governor suspends Commissioner for Justice

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State recently suspended Attorney General Fidelis Mnyim for joining a lawsuit that challenges the powers of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), without prior approval.

Alia expressed concern that this lawsuit could obstruct his administration’s ongoing efforts to recover funds allegedly misused by the previous administration. He emphasized that the EFCC and ICPC are valuable allies in his mission for financial transparency and accountability in Benue State, and he expects officials to consult him on matters of such importance before proceeding
