President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff. This appointment comes as Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the current Chief of Army Staff, is temporarily unavailable due to health reasons. General Oluyede, previously the Commander of the Infantry Corps based in Jaji, Kaduna, brings a distinguished military career to his new role, with service experience in various Nigerian Army operations, including peacekeeping missions in Liberia and counter-insurgency efforts in northeastern Nigeria.
Oluyede, a member of the 39th Regular Course and a graduate from the Nigerian Defense Academy, was promoted to Major General in 2020. Known for his leadership in several key command positions, he has received multiple honors, including the Corps Medal of Honour and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award. Oluyede is set to lead the Army in an acting capacity until Lagbaja’s return.
