In a move aimed at strengthening the operations of the National Population Commission (NPC), President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of seven new Federal Commissioners. These appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the commission for improved efficiency in population data management and national planning.
The newly appointed commissioners will represent their respective states, bringing regional perspectives and administrative experience to the commission’s mandate. The appointees are:
- Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi – Ekiti State
- Nasiru Mu’azu – Zamfara State
- Usman Abubakar Tuggar – Bauchi State
- Dr Isaka Alada Yahaya – Kwara State
- Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda – Katsina State
- Suleiman Umar – Jigawa State
- Hon. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo – Sokoto State
These appointments come at a critical time when the NPC is expected to play a central role in delivering accurate and reliable population data—an essential component for national development, policy formulation, and resource allocation.
Observers note that the inclusion of individuals with diverse professional backgrounds could enhance the commission’s capacity to address longstanding challenges in census planning and demographic data collection. The appointments are also seen as part of the administration’s broader strategy to ensure balanced representation across states in key federal institutions.
As the new commissioners assume office, expectations are high that they will contribute meaningfully to the commission’s goals, particularly in advancing transparency, credibility, and technological innovation in population management.
The development underscores the federal government’s continued commitment to strengthening institutions that are vital to Nigeria’s socio-economic planning and growth.
