BIPC TO TAKEOVER BEN FRUITS, REVIVE JUICE PRODUCTION IN BENUE

The Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) has initiated a strategic plan to revive the Ben Fruits Company Limited, a juice processing factory in Makurdi that has been dormant since 2015. This move is expected to stimulate economic growth, generate jobs, and enhance the value of Benue State’s agricultural resources.

Background: Ben Fruits Company Limited

Ben Fruits, once a key player in juice production under Teragro’s management, ceased operations in 2015. Despite its potential, the facility suffered setbacks, including equipment neglect and security challenges. However, its revival is now a priority for BIPC as part of the state government’s broader economic strategy.

Revitalization Plan

Led by Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, CFA, Managing Director of BIPC, the company is taking decisive steps to restore operations:

  • Equipment Testing and Auditing: Dr. Asemakaha inspected the facility, directing the engineering team to begin equipment testing on July 25, 2024, to evaluate their condition.
  • Asset Utilization Audit: A comprehensive audit will determine the best use of the existing top-notch machinery.
  • Production Goals: BIPC aims to re-establish a robust juice production line capable of producing a range of beverages for local consumption.

Government and Stakeholder Support

The revitalization effort aligns with the economic vision of His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who prioritizes investment and job creation in Benue State. Key stakeholders, including Kennedy Igyor from the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, and Tseeshom Mannaseh, Chief Security Officer, have expressed optimism about the project. They acknowledged past challenges, such as vandalism, but are confident in BIPC’s ability to manage and secure the facility.

Expected Benefits

  1. Economic Growth: The revived factory will enhance agricultural value chains, particularly for fruits grown in Benue State.
  2. Job Creation: Direct and indirect employment opportunities will arise from factory operations and ancillary services.
  3. Increased Local Production: Benue will strengthen its reputation as Nigeria’s food basket by supplying high-quality juices locally and potentially exporting them.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in revitalizing Benue State’s industrial base, leveraging local resources to fuel sustainable development.
