Katsina State has a lot of tourist attractions whose origin can be traced back to hundreds of years. From its interesting history, Katsina State has many monuments and traditional architectures that depict the dynamism Of the people. These include Gobarau Minaret, Ganuwar Amina. the seven city gates (KOFA) the tomb of saint Dan-rnarna, the Emir’s Palaces, traditional Sallah Festivals and several others.

MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

I. GANUWAR AMINA
Ganuwar Amina is the name given to the ancient wall that was built around the city of Katsina for its protection in tine times of war. Said to have been erected during the reign of King Marabus, the wall is estimated to be about 900 years old.

    The unique traditional architecture of the Katsina State people has been presented through the years as can be seen at the two palaces of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura. Visitors from various places of abode have always marveled at the great skill exhibited by these traditional builders whose work has survived the ravages Of both weather and time.
  2. 0LD KATSINA COLLEGE
    It was built in 1922. It is one of the oldest training colleges in the country.

Its main attraction is the red baked clay with which it was built. Prominent citizens in the cmntry such as the late Premier, of Northern Region Sir, Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto, and the late Prime Minister of Nigeria Sir, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa attended this college.

  1. GOBARAU MINARET
    The Minaret was built more than 500 years ago and is still standing because of the skill of the ancient craftsmen who build it. It was built with baked clay and mud and it had bæn a thing of wonder tothe inhabitants of the city then. Legend has it that because of _its height in those days it was used for surveillance purposes where advancing enemy warriors were sighted from far.

    The famous Kusugu well of Daura is of a very special historical importance. It is well that the snake referred to as “Sarki” during those days was said to have lived. Later, it was killed by BAYAJIDDA a hero who came from the Middle East. The snake was causing a lotof hardship to the people by preventing them from drawing water from the well except ones in a week. For killing the snake, Daurama the reigning Queen married Bayajidda. According to legend, this event took 10th Century A.D. offspring’s from the marriage later became rulers of the seven Hausa States.
