Nasarawa state was created during the Abacha Government on the 1st of October, 1996 from Plateau State. The State is surrounded by Kaduna State by the North, Abuja to the West, Taraba and Plateau to the East and Kogi and Benue to the North.
Nasarawa has its origin from the Afo territory by Unmaru, who was a dissidents official from Keffi town. The town is also spelled as Nassarawa and can be said to be in Central Nigeria. It is located close to a fork in the Okwa River, a tributary of Benue State.

The National Population and Housing Census recorded the population of Nasarawa State to be a total of 1,869,576 in 2006. The size of the area is 27,117km₂
Economy of Nasarawa State
The people of Nasarawa state are majorly into Farming and few cattle rears, but farming is the most common occupation done by the Inhabitants of Nasarawa State people. The State produces crops such as; guinea corn, Beans, soya beans, asha, millet, maize, rice, cassava and yam. There are also Minerals in Nasarawa State such as; salt-this state is the largest State to produce Salt. The State’s major farm produce is cassava and egusi and yam.

The Executive Arm
This is headed by the elected governor of the State, assisted by those he appoints to work with Him in the State government. TANKO AL-MAKURA is the current governor of Nasarawa State.
The Legislative Arm
They convene at Nasarawa State House Assembly in Lafia is made up of 24 members elected by the people of the 24 constituencies of Nasarawa State. IBRAHIM BALARABE is the speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
The Judicial Arm
This is headed by the chief judge of the State. Justice SULEIMAN DIKKO is the current judge of Nasarawa State
