The swearing-in ceremony of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen for the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Gombe State, Nigeria took place on January 20, 2023. The ceremony was led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who appointed the caretaker chairmen to fill the leadership void created after the expiration of the tenure of the elected chairmen on December 21, 2022. The new appointees were chosen based on their past performance and political experience.
Along with the chairmen, the governor also swore in two permanent secretaries and two special advisers. He emphasized that these appointments were made to ensure the continued progress of his administration and the state’s development, especially in areas like infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, and more. The governor also reminded the new appointees to serve the people with integrity, avoid corruption, and work to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

Garba Umar Garus – Balanga LGA
Margret Bitrus – Billiri LGA
Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa – Dukku LGA
Ibrahim Adamu Cheldu – Funakaye LGA
Aliyu Usman Haruna – Gombe LGA
Faruk Aliyu Umar – Kaltungo LGA
Ibrahim Buba – Kwami LGA
Salisu Shu’aibu Dendele – Nafada LGA
Yohanna Nahari – Shongom LGA
Garba Usman – Yamaltu/Deba LGA
The two newly appointed permanent secretaries are:
Salisu Sambo from Akko LGA
Jidaya Abba from Billiri LGA
The two special advisers are:
Haruna Mohammed Samanja
Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde
In his address, the governor also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during the 2023 general elections and called on traditional rulers and other community leaders to sensitize the public on this matter. The ceremony was attended by key political and security figures, including the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, and representatives of traditional and religious bodies.
