The Airport is located in Maiduguri and it is also surrounded by Bulunkutu, Shiwari, Shelmari and Muronti communities.
The Maiduguri Airport started full operations in the early 80s as a result of the need for Airports in the North Eastern part of the country. In 1987, the terminal building and other facilities were reconstructed and modernized to meet international aviation standards.
