Hon. Dr (Chief) Olisa Imegwu
Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Olise Imegwu born in 1956 is from Ndokwa East Local Government. He was the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and has been in the House since 1999. He is a Christian and married with children.
At the dawn of the 4ft- republic in 1999, Hon (Dr) Olisa Imegwu, a native of Aboh in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State won elections unopposed into the State House of Assembly to represent his constituency – the Ndokwa East State constituency.
In 2003, he was re-elected also unopposed for a second term as member of the state legislature under the No1 political party in the state – the Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P).
In 2007, Hon. Imegwu was again re-elected into the State House of Assembly a record third time but this time, his colleagues elected him to be SPEAKER of the House; a post zoned to the Delta North Senatorial district by the dominant Party in the State-PDP.
Before Hon. Imegwu contested elections into the State legislature, he had on his return ftom the United States of America where he was a university lecturer, worked as a Special Assistant to the Sole Administrator of the then Oil Minerals producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) in 1996. He was later re-designated as an Assistant Director for Information and logistics between 1996 – 1998 in the same commission.
In 1998, when the curtain was raised for contests into elective positions in the botched elections during the Abacha Military era, Dr. Imegwu contested and won elections unopposed into the Federal House of Representatives to represent the people ofNdokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani Local Government Areas.
Now serving a third term and the state’s No1 lawmaker, Hon Imegwu used his previous opportunities as legislator to deliver the “Dividends of Democracy” to his people by initiating and ensuring completion of several people oriented projects in the areas of Electricity, Roads, Health Care, EmploYment, Education, etc.
He ensured the energizing and switching-on of electricity to Aboh and connecting Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West ftom Ogume to Ozoro electricity line. Other Communities like Umuti/ Akarai Etiti/ Akarai ObodolUmuolui Adiawai Communities amongst others also got the electricity touch ofHon. Imegwu.
One major achievement of Hon. Imegwu in his first and second term as lawmaker is influencing the state government’s decision to construct the long-sought-after bridge to link the riverine Communities of Ndokwa East to the rest of the other upland communities of Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West. The N6.5 billion bridge has put smiles on the faces of most road users in K wale/ Ashaka/Igbukul Aboh and adjoining Communities.
As a lawmaker, Hon Imegwu sponsored three bills which were passed into law before becoming Speaker. They are the Animal Movement Bill, Order of Precedence Bill and Local Government Amendment Bill. He has also moved over 26 far-reaching Motions, some of which have been implemented by the Federal Government.
Hon. (Dr) Olise Imegwu before venturing into politics worked part-time as Assistant Professor at Southern University in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA from 1994 – 1996. He also worked as Director of Public Affairs in African Chamber of Commerce, New Orleans.
He obtained his first degree in political Science, his second degree in public Administration and doctorate degree in political science all in the United States of America.
Hon. Imegwu while in America was President of the organization of Nigerian Professionals (New Orleans Chapter); Vice President of the Association of Nigerians in New Orleans, Louisiana, and founding father of the organization of Nigerian-American Minorities, New Orleans, United States.
He is a recipient of numerous distinguished awards amongst them the “Best legislator of the year” (2004 and 2006) bestowed on him by Truth Talk Foundation and Glamour Media and Entertainment Systems respectively. He is also a prolific writer who has written several Newspaper articles published in Nigeria National dailies on topical issues in the country.
