His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliyu Isah Gummi (MON), the Emir of Gummi, was born in 1925 in Gummi, Zamfara State. He hails from a long line of traditional rulers. His father, M. Tudu Rafi Isah Gummi, descended from a noble lineage of Sarkin Mafaran Gummi (rulers of Gummi). His ancestors include prominent figures like Sarkin Mafaran Gummi Muhammadu Andi and Abdullahi Laje, with the lineage tracing back to Muhammadu Waru, who was the first Sarkin Gummi, installed by Shehu Usman dan Fodio in 1782.
Education: Alhaji Aliyu Isah Gummi received both Islamic and Western education. His formal education began at Dogon Daji Elementary School (1931–1934) before progressing to Sokoto Middle School (1935–1939). He then attended Bauchi Teachers’ College, where he earned a Grade III certificate in 1943. Later, he attended Sokoto Teachers’ College (TISEP) from 1967 to 1969, where he earned his Grade II Teachers’ certificate.

Career in Education and Civil Service: Alhaji Aliyu Isah Gummi began his career as a teacher in various elementary schools. He taught at Anka Elementary School from 1943 to 1945, Gummi Elementary School in 1946, and Dange Elementary School in Sokoto from 1948 to 1949, before returning to Gummi as Headmaster. He served in that role for 21 years, from 1950 to 1971.
Political Career and Leadership: In addition to his career in education, Alhaji Aliyu Isah Gummi entered public service. He was elected the first Chairman of Gummi Local Government from 1977 to 1979. He also served as a member of the National Assembly in Lagos from October 1, 1979, to December 31, 1982, under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
Traditional Leadership: In 1983, Alhaji Aliyu Isah Gummi was appointed as Sarkin Mafaran Gummi (District Head of Gummi), a title he held until 1997. On July 25, 1997, he was announced as the Emir of Gummi by the Zamfara State Military Administrator, Colonel Jibril Bala Yakubu, and became the chairman of the Gummi Emirate Council. In 2003, he was elevated to the rank of First-Class Emir by Governor Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura.
