THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW MINISTER FOR HUMANITARIAN AND POVERTY REDUCTION

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, recently appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has a diverse background in engineering, renewable energy, and public service. Originally from Plateau State, he holds degrees in electrical and electronic engineering, with advanced specialization in digital systems engineering. His professional journey includes roles as a software and renewable energy consultant and project leader for various humanitarian and energy initiatives across Nigeria.

Before his ministerial appointment, Goshwe served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Benue State and was the 2023 APC governorship candidate in Plateau. In his inaugural address as minister, he emphasized transparency and collaboration with civil servants to address Nigeria’s pressing humanitarian and poverty issues, advocating for policies that add a “human face” to economic reforms and reduce poverty impact on vulnerable populations.
