Sokoto is a state in Nigeria, with administrative capital in the city of Sokoto. Sokoto State is in the north-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria alongside Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
Sokoto State is located at 667.5 km north-west of Abuja, and is bounded to the north by the Republic of Niger, to the south-east by Zamfara State, and to the south-west by kebbi State.
Sokoto State has an area 25,973 km². Sokoto State also has 23 local government areas out of the 774 local government areas that, alongside the 36 States, constitute the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Sokoto State is predominantly inhabited by the Hausas and the Fulanis.
