Recently, Nigerian lawmakers have taken action to suspend Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, over alleged budget discrepancies. Edu faced scrutiny after a leaked memo surfaced showing that she directed the Accountant-General to transfer N585 million to a private account under controversial circumstances. Although Edu defended the transaction as legitimate, this development has intensified calls for government accountability.
This suspension is part of a broader restructuring in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which included recent dismissals of other officials in a bid to improve government operations.
